Traffic ahead, and a detour your rig fits

Traffic is a bigger deal in a big rig. You can't dart down a side street, you can't always turn around, and an hour stuck behind a wreck is an hour of a drive day you planned to the minute. RV Compass Pro now tells you about slow traffic ahead, and offers a way around that your rig fits.

Traffic ahead, said once

While you navigate, RV Compass checks the road ahead for slow traffic on your route. A jam has to be real to count: at least about a third of a mile long, and at least two minutes slower than the route's normal time. When one shows up, you get a banner and a single spoken warning, like "Slow traffic in 3 miles for 2 miles, about 9 min delay." It says each jam once, so it doesn't nag you while you sit in it.

A traffic layer sits under your route on the map too, so you can see where it thins out.

A detour, only if it's worth it

When the jam is bad, the app looks for a way around, and it routes that detour the same way it routes everything else: for your rig's height, weight, and length. It only offers one if it saves 10 minutes or more, after counting the detour's own traffic. And it only takes it if you tap Take it. Ignore it, or tap No thanks, and you stay on the route you planned.

That last part matters. A detour you didn't ask for, on roads you didn't plan, in a rig that can't easily turn around, is how drivers end up somewhere they shouldn't be. You decide.

Where the data comes from

Live traffic comes from Mapbox, matched onto our own RV-safe route, and the delay is measured against what that route would normally take. If traffic data can't be reached, your route and every other warning keep working as usual.

Traffic ahead and traffic detours are part of RV Compass Pro. More about driving with the app in turn-by-turn navigation, built for the cab.
