About the show

Each January the small desert town of Quartzsite, Arizona, fills with RVers who come for the gem and mineral sales, the swap meets and the open desert camping. The Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show sits at the center of that season. The 2027 edition is the 44th, and it runs for nine days from Friday, January 15 through Saturday, January 23, on the show grounds at 700 S. Central Blvd.

What to expect

Most of the show happens inside one very large tent lined with booths, with more exhibitors set up outdoors on the midway and in service bays where vendors fit products to rigs. Expect a mix of RV dealers, solar and battery companies, tire and suspension shops, campground and travel clubs, gadget sellers and free seminars. RV Country is listed by the producer as the show's exclusive RV dealer, and Progressive is the naming sponsor.

For 2027 the show has changed its pattern: it now opens on a Friday and closes on a Saturday, and the doors are open from 9 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon every day. Getting in costs nothing, and parking on the show grounds is free for cars and trucks.

Before you go

Plan your camping first. The show does not offer public camping, but federal desert land with dry camping sits right beside the grounds, and dozens of private RV parks line the main streets of town. The best spots fill early in January, so book or arrive well ahead of opening day.

Getting there and big-rig parking

RV parking nearby. Quartzsite RV Show Grounds, 700 S. Central Blvd, Quartzsite, AZ 85346.

Confirmed on the producer's attendee information sheet: there is no RV parking at the show. The free lot on the show grounds is laid out for cars and pickups, and only a Class B or a similarly small van is likely to fit. Ground next to the lot is also used for parking, but the producer warns that parts of it are deep, soft sand where vehicles get stuck, and you park there at your own risk. The show offers no public camping. Federal dry camping land lies just south of the grounds, and a large RV park sits across Central Blvd from the main entrance.

Suggestion, not confirmed: set up a 40 foot motorhome or a truck and fifth wheel at a campground or on the desert first, then come to the show in the tow car or the unhitched truck. Arrive near the 9 am opening for the easiest parking. If the lot is full, look for a spot on hard ground at your camp and walk or bike in rather than pulling onto loose sand with a heavy vehicle.

Around Quartzsite

Quartzsite sits on Interstate 10 about 20 miles east of the California line, and for most of the year it is a quiet desert crossroads. In January it turns into one of the largest RV gatherings anywhere, with rock, gem and mineral dealers, swap meets and tailgate sellers lining the main streets for weeks. Wandering those markets is the main pastime, and many visitors combine a day at the show with a morning of browsing for rocks, tools and parts.

The open desert around town is famous for boondocking. The federal long-term visitor areas south of town draw full rigs for whole winters, and shorter-stay areas sit along the roads north and west. Sunsets over the Dome Rock Mountains and clear night skies are a big part of the appeal.

For a day trip, the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge to the south is known for desert bighorn sheep and a short hike to a canyon that shelters native palm trees; the access road is gravel, so take the tow car. The Colorado River lies about 20 miles west near Ehrenberg and Blythe, with riverside parks and fishing. In town, the Hi Jolly monument in the local cemetery honors a camel driver from an Army experiment in the 1850s and makes an easy, free stop.

Tips for visiting

  • Leave the motorhome or fifth wheel at camp and drive your tow car or pickup to the show; the lot is laid out for cars and trucks.
  • Stay on firm ground when parking near the grounds; the soft sand beside the lot can trap a heavy vehicle.
  • Weekdays tend to be easier than the two weekends if you want to talk with vendors about a solar or suspension job.
  • Bring water, sun protection and a layer for the morning chill; desert days warm up fast and cool off by late afternoon.
  • Fill fresh water and empty tanks before you settle in on the open desert, since hookups there are scarce.
