About the show

Overland Expo PNW is the Pacific Northwest stop of the Overland Expo series, a weekend event for people who build out trucks, vans, motorcycles and trailers for long trips and camping away from the pavement. The 2027 edition runs Friday through Sunday, June 25 to 27, at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center in Redmond, in the high desert of central Oregon.

What to expect

The event fills the fairgrounds with outdoor exhibits: rooftop tents, pop-up campers, off-road trailers, adventure vans and fully kitted trucks, along with vendors of fridges, power systems, recovery gear and camp kitchens. Classes and talks cover off-road driving, recovery, navigation and trip planning, and some hands-on sessions carry their own ticket. Motorcycle travelers usually have their own corner of the show.

The fairgrounds are large and mostly flat, with paved roads between the buildings and arenas, which makes them easier to get around than a forest venue. The grounds also include a year-round RV park with full hookups, a short walk from the event.

Before you go

The grounds open at 9 a.m. each day and close at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Check the official page for tickets and camping options, and book any RV site early, since central Oregon is busy in summer.

Getting there and big-rig parking

RV parking on site. Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center, 3800 SW Airport Way, Redmond, OR 97756.

Confirmed on the venue's own pages: the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center covers more than 320 acres off US 97 in Redmond. From the north or south, take the Yew Avenue exit; Yew becomes SW Airport Way and leads to the grounds. The Expo RV Park on the fairgrounds is open all year with 105 full hookup sites offering 30 and 50 amp power, water and sewer, at $62 a night plus tax, with check-in after 1 pm and check-out at 11 am. The park office is staffed every day.

Suggestion, not confirmed: a 40 foot motorhome or a truck and fifth wheel should be comfortable at the RV park, but whether it is open to the public or held for the event during Overland Expo weekend is unknown, so call early. If it is full, look at the RV parks in Bend about 15 miles south or near Prineville and Sisters, and drive the tow car in. Event camping rules and the gate used by RVs during the show are not confirmed.

Around Redmond

Redmond sits in the middle of central Oregon's high desert, with the Cascade peaks on the western skyline and a dry, sunny climate that makes June a fine time to linger.

Smith Rock State Park, about 9 miles northeast, is the standout nearby: towering volcanic cliffs above a bend of the Crooked River, with river trails for an easy walk and a steep climb up Misery Ridge for the energetic. Its parking lots fill early on summer weekends. To the south, Bend has a lively downtown, breweries and the Deschutes River trail, and just past it the High Desert Museum and Newberry National Volcanic Monument offer wildlife exhibits, lava caves and obsidian flows.

To the north, The Cove Palisades State Park near Culver has a big reservoir in a basalt canyon, good for boating and swimming. West of town, the small western-themed town of Sisters is a pleasant drive, and the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway beyond Bend opens up mountain lakes once the snow clears. Peter Skene Ogden State Scenic Viewpoint, north of Terrebonne on US 97, is a quick stop above a deep river gorge with a large parking area.

Tips for visiting

  • Reserve a site at the Expo RV Park on the fairgrounds as early as you can; it has 30 and 50 amp full hookups but only 105 sites.
  • Come in from US 97 at the Yew Avenue exit, which feeds straight onto SW Airport Way and the fairgrounds, rather than through downtown Redmond.
  • High desert nights are cool even in June, and afternoons can be hot and dusty, so pack for both and keep awnings secured in wind.
  • Check the producer's camping rules and any vehicle length limit before bringing a 40 foot motorhome or a long fifth wheel to event camping.
  • Fill with diesel in Redmond or Bend before the weekend; truck stops with high canopies are scarce right around the fairgrounds.
