How far can we get today? Meet range rings.

Every travel day starts with the same honest question: how far can we actually get before we need to stop for the night? Range rings put the answer right on the map — and then find you somewhere to sleep at the edge of it.

A ring for every driving day

Range rings draw one ring per driving day, each at your real daily limit. RV Compass uses your max-miles-per-day setting if you've set one, falls back to your preferred drive time, and defaults to a sensible six hours if you haven't told it either. The rings march out from your starting point — Day 1, Day 2, and so on — drawing just enough of them to reach your destination (capped at four so the map stays readable).

The parks sitting right at the edge

This was the single most-requested thing from early riders: don't just show me a circle, show me where I can actually stop. So the Within reach panel surfaces the overnight options sitting near each day's edge — inside a small overshoot tolerance of the ring — sorted nearest-to-the-edge so you squeeze the most out of the day, grouped by which day they belong to. Each one carries its rating, nightly rate, an estimated drive, and pull-through and big-rig filters.

Every kind of overnight, if you want it

"Somewhere to stop" means different things to different rigs, so range rings cover the whole spectrum: RV parks, campgrounds, Harvest Hosts, rest areas, and Walmart-style overnight lots — each with its own map glyph and a day badge. Which categories show up is your call — a saved preference — and parking-lot nights are opt-in, off by default, for the folks who'd never.

One tap to lock it in

See a park you like at the edge of Day 1? Tap its pin and it drops straight into your trip as an overnight stop — and it's smart about where: instead of always wedging in next to the anchor, it slots into the gap in your route with the least detour. There's a satellite toggle for eyeballing a park's overhead approach before you commit, too.

And a small thing that matters: the map won't add a stop from a stray tap anymore. Adds are deliberate now — you arm add mode first — so brushing the screen never quietly mutates your plan.

"Where are we sleeping tonight?" used to be a 9 p.m. scramble. Now it's a glance at the edge of the ring.
